What is information technology ?
When you think of a personal computer, most of the time you think of that device, that is, the screen keyboard. But there is more to it than that.
When considering a personal computer, consider it as a part of information technology. Information technology consists of many parts: people, processes, software, hardware, data, and the Internet.
What does information technology encompass ?
Software :-
A program contains step-by-step instructions that tell a computer how to work. Programs or programs are also called software.
The purpose of the 'software' is to convert data (unsubstantiated facts) into information (unsubstantiated facts). For example, a payroll program will have instructions for a computer to multiply the work (data) you have done in a week by your pay rate (data) and calculate your weekly salary (information).
Hardware :-
Hardware is a device that creates information by methods based on data. This includes smartphones, tablets, keyboards, mice, displays, system units and other devices. The "hardware" is controlled by the software.
Data :-
Data is data that does not use raw methods, including articles, numbers, pictures and sounds. Information is generated from the data performed by the method.
In the example of the payroll program given earlier, information (weekly pay) is created using data (working hours and pay rate).
Internet :-
Almost all information systems allow people and computers to connect, for which the Internet is used most of the time. This connectivity greatly enhances the capabilities and usability of information systems.
People :-
People are often overlooked as part of information technology. But personal computers are made just for people. To make end users more productive like you.
Methods :-
The rules or guidelines that people follow when using software hardware and data are methods that are mainly written in computer manuals by computer experts.
Manufacturers of software and hardware provide manuals along with their products. Manuals are in printed or electronic form.
